Aurora Aksnes earliest musical memory is of finding a piano in her attic and being fascinated by the sounds it would produce. Jan Oystein Aksnes was her father. He urged her not to do music just to have fun or as a means of growing, but that she was encouraged to take it seriously. She started writing lyrics of her own. Bjork and Leonard Cohen are among her favorite composers. She began performing her music in public when her mother suggested that they can help other people, not be famous with her work but to make the people around them understand their importance and the ways they could impact the world. She began playing the piano as her primary instrument when she was six. She started creating music after turning nine. The family did not be aware of this until she turned fourteen. Aurora wasn't a childhood dream. She claims that she simply likes to write songs. She believes that music can help any person feel better.
